About the book

The World of Cartoons’ by Marriam Iftikhar and Itfa Iftikhar explores the world of cartoons, art, and animation in a thoughtful and balanced way. It studies how cartoons are created, how they are presented in media, and how they influence individuals and society. It also examines cartoons from an Islamic perspective and discusses their place in both global and Pakistani media.

In today’s digital age, cartoons are not limited to children’s entertainment. They are part of a powerful media system that shapes opinions, emotions, behavior, and cultural values. Through animation, complex ideas are presented in a simple and attractive form. Because of this, cartoons have become more than just entertainment; they are tools of communication and influence.

This book does not treat cartoons as entirely positive or entirely negative. Instead, it analyzes both sides carefully. It discusses their educational and creative benefits, while also addressing concerns about moral values, cultural identity, and religious sensitivity. From an Islamic viewpoint, the book considers questions about visual representation, imagination, ethics, and responsibility in media production.

The book also compares global animation trends with Pakistani media practices. It highlights how international industries influence local content and how cultural messages are transmitted through animated stories. Special attention is given to the impact of digital media platforms on younger generations.

The aim of this work is to encourage critical thinking. Rather than accepting or rejecting cartoons without reflection, readers are invited to understand their deeper meanings and social effects. This book is an academic yet accessible attempt to study cartoons as a serious cultural, social, and religious subject in the modern world.

About the Authors

Marriam Iftikhar:Marriam Iftikhar is an emerging Pakistani author, researcher, and visual artist whose work brings together media studies and visual art practice in a thoughtful and meaningful way. She completed her BS (Hons.) in Mass Communication from University of the Punjab and later earned her M.Phil in Studio Practice from the Post Graduate Research Center College of Art and Design. Her academic journey, combined with her creative background, has shaped her interest in understanding how visual media influences young minds.

From a very early age, she had a deep love for cartoons and animated stories. What began as childhood fascination gradually evolved into academic curiosity. Now, as a mother of two children, she once again found herself closely observing cartoons—this time not just as a viewer, but as a parent and researcher. Watching her own children engage with animated content renewed her focus on understanding how cartoons influence thinking, behavior, imagination, and moral development. This personal and intellectual journey ultimately led her to write this book.

In her work, she carefully examines global cartoons within today’s rapidly expanding digital environment. Rather than viewing animation as simple entertainment, she approaches it as a powerful visual language. Her analysis focuses on artistic techniques, visual style, storytelling patterns, and the moral and cultural messages embedded within animated content, particularly for toddlers.

Itfa Iftikhar:Itfa Iftikhar is an author, researcher, and educator whose work thoughtfully bridges academic study, creative practice, and community engagement. She has completed her BS (Hons.), Masters, and M.Phil. in Islamic Studies. She began her career as a college lecturer, guiding young minds in their academic journey, and has since pursued her own scholarly and creative interests as a writer. Over the years, she has authored two books, combining research with practical insights. In addition to her writing, she is a certified cupping therapist and co-founder of Usba Counselorz, supporting wellness and personal development in her community.

Alongside her professional pursuits, she has actively contributed to various social organizations, including Al-Mohsinat Community Centre, Step Towards Literacy, and Akhuwat, working to empower communities and promote education and well-being.

This is her third book, focusing on cartoons. What began as a personal interest has evolved into a critical exploration of animated content. Through this work, she examines cartoons not merely as entertainment, but as a powerful visual medium that shapes imagination, behavior, and moral understanding, particularly among young children, blending her experiences as a researcher, parent, and observer of visual media.
